REFUNDS FROM UNION POLITICAL DEDUCTIONS Colorado Education Association (CEA) The Colorado Education Association (CEA) raises political funds through a structure known as Every Member Option (EMO). A certain amount ($39 in 2007-2008) is deducted from the paycheck of every full-time member teacher (part-time member teachers and support personnel pay a lesser amount). The EMO exclusively finances political activities (go here to see how the unions reported political spending in 2006). CEA members who wish to receive an EMO refund must submit their requests in writing by DECEMBER 15 to: Colorado Education Association The letter should include the CEA member's name, Social Security Number, and local association. The following local associations also have a refundable Every Member Option: Jefferson County, Denver, Adams 12, Pueblo 60, Boulder Valley, Poudre, St. Vrain, Pueblo 70, Mesa Valley, and Colorado Springs 11. AFT members, find information here. Local CEA Affiliates' Every Member Option Some local CEA affiliates also have their own separate refundable EMO. In some districts, a CEA member teacher has as much as $63 taken from his or her paycheck in 2007-2008 to directly fund political campaigns - $39 to CEA and $24 to the local. JEFFERSON COUNTY: All JCEA members have an additional $24 a year deducted from their paychecks directly for political purposes.
